How Does Weight Affect Heart Disease?

Previously, it was thought that fat was inert. But being overweight or obese is not just a cosmetic problem. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, inactivity and a poor diet all have a negative impact on your heart health, but by far the most important factor negatively affecting heart health is excess body weight.
